Slow & Steady: My Words for 2025
Since 2021, inspired by a friend (and my own little rebellion against traditional resolutions), I’ve swapped New Year’s resolutions for a Word of the Year. My "Word of the Year" serves as a gentle guide, helping me focus on what’s most needed in my life. It’s like a compass, steering me toward what truly matters. With awareness and intention at its core, it helps me make meaningful changes throughout the year.
This year, It's all about embracing SLOW & STEADY—a deliberate pause to reflect, refine, and realign. It’s about moving with purpose, digging deep into my why, and prioritising what matters most. Think of it like the tortoise in the timeless fable: life isn’t about rushing ahead, but embracing the here and now, allowing growth and transformation to unfold at a steady pace. Laying a strong, thoughtful foundation now will set the stage for a future that’s not just meaningful, but sustainable.
That’s where this year’s focus comes in—and why It's all about taking things slow. We’ve spent the last few months reflecting, stepping back, and creating space to think beyond the daily must do’s. With that in mind, here’s an update on where we’ve been and where we’re headed:
2024 - THE PAUSE
After navigating a series of difficult seasons and dealing with burnout, Angelo and I made the tough call to pause Harlow. We knew the brand deserved our full energy and attention, but we simply didn’t have the capacity to give it. So, we decided the only viable path was to pause. We sold off stock, fabric, and trims, clearing the decks and creating a fresh slate for Harlow’s future—ready for the right moment to move ahead.
It’s been a little over four months since we moved out of Harlow HQ - our home for the past 12 years 😔. In some ways, it feels like just yesterday, but this pause has given us the time to reflect deeply. We’re still full of love for Harlow ❤️, and we’re excited about her future✨. With new energy and fresh ideas, we believe she can evolve, grow, and stay true to what makes her special. We’re actively working behind the scenes to make that happen.
What’s ahead?
We’re giving ourselves the time and space to consider the next step carefully. Over the next six months, we’re diving into studies, consulting, mentoring, and exploring new creative outlets. We’re also prioritising some self-care—nourishing our minds, bodies, and spirits. By stepping away from the day-to-day of Harlow, it will allow us to think outside the box we having been working within and create a sustainable path forward for Harlow, one that’s in alignment with both our vision and our community’s needs.
This is where for me focusing in on Slow & Steady really comes into play. Reminding myself It’s not about rushing ahead like a hare on espresso—it’s about embracing the process and taking the time to evaluate, reflect, and recalibrate before making the next move.
Do you pick a word for the year? If so, we’d love to hear what your word for 2025 is!
