Meet the face behind our AW15 Campaign
I sat down and threw a few questions Chanel's way, she handled them like the true professional she is...
K: There is a lot of controversy about the term "plus size" being used in modeling with the "drop the plus" campaign, how do you feel about the term plus size, and what does it mean to you?
C: The Term PLUS SIZE to me is a word that distinguishes between the straight size & a curvy model. I don't mind the term as I feel PROUD TO BE KNOWN AS A PLUS MODEL. I've grown to really love & be proud of my curves.
K: How long have you been modeling? When & why did you start?
C: I've been modelling since I was a little girl, initially with mums modelling and deportment schools. Mum later started BETTINA MANAGEMENT, she had clients looking for a curvy model & put me on the books straight away. I started my modelling career at the age of 18 as there was so much interest. I worked with clients such a Target, Uniform brands, Chain Reaction, Peter Morrisey, Kmart, Myer and various other plus size brands. Including being the face of Big City Chic, and working with Dream Diva on a 4 year contract. There was then a BOOM in the demand for PLUS SIZE models and that's when I signed with Bella Model Management. The LEADING PLUS SIZE agency, they have some of the most successful PLUS MODELS on their books. I'm so PROUD to be apart of such an amazing, inspiring and supportive Business.
K: As well as being an amazing model, you are also an accomplished and talented MUA, how long have you been a MUA and what made you decide on the career path?
C: I always knew I wanted to be a hair & makeup artist!!! Having a father who is a hairdresser & mother a model, it runs through my blood, I was destined to be apart of the world of fashion & beauty.I have a Diploma of Entertainment makeup course & certificate 3 in Hairdressing from Uni.I have been fortunate to have been the resident hair & make-up artist for Target at Huge studio for 10 years, and I now juggle my time between modelling gigs, and freelancing as a hair and make up artist.
K: We talked on set that you had never had a fringe, what did you think of the look it gave you and would you ever go the chop for real?
C: I'm not sure I'd make it permanent, but I must say I loved how different I looked with the help of the clip in fringe, it's amazing what a difference something so simple made to my look.
C: I start with foundation, my pick is Chanel Vitalumier- its a light to medium coverage with a duey finish followed by a dust of powder to set your foundation. Chanel cream bronzer to give a nice contour, followed by my prep & prime highlighter pen by MAC under my eyes to give me a lift. For eyes - I usually put a brown wash of colour using my Tom Ford palette followed by liquid eyeliner & mascara. With lips- Nice n spicy lip liner by Mac & to the future lipstick by Mac finishing off with a dab of myth lipstick by Mac, I'm usually done in 10-15min.
K: Do you have a style icon?
C: Kim Kardashian, I'm forever inspired by her confidence, amazing fashion & beauty style.
K: One last one, what are you most looking forward to?
C: Getting married to the love of my life Matthew & starting a family.
Ohhh that's so sweet, thanks so much for taking the time Chanel, its been fun.
